I don’t know about your house, but mine is crazy, especially when it’s time to sit down and talk about our Come Follow Me lesson for the week. I’ve got four boys, and they immediately get the wiggles as soon as the scriptures come out. In our house, finding ways to teach and apply the scriptures is a huge deal for us. Luckily, authors Loren D. Marks and David C. Dollahite have compiled a new resource for families like mine, and like yours.
The authors surveyed over 500 LDS families who are trying to teach the gospel in their home and pulled out a lot of great suggestions learned from their research. The authors are both professors in the School of Family Life at BYU, and the book is published by the Religious Studies Center, which always puts out great work. I’m looking forward to getting my hands on a copy, I’m hoping there’s a chapter titled “House Full of Boys,” but we’ll have to wait and see!
Here’s the publisher’s description:
In discussing home-centered worship, this volume explores both individual and family worship and draws from reports from a diverse sample of more than five hundred Latter-day Saints who have shared the challenges and barriers they have faced—and successes they have experienced. Individuals and families can establish and maintain a home-centered religious life and strengthen their conversion to the gospel by using these real-life experiences, quotes, and key findings in the social sciences.
